This stan\u00addard covers dif\u00adfe\u00adrent types of eyewear: spec\u00adta\u00adcles, goggles and face shields as well as pre\u00adscrip\u00adti\u00adon and plano lenses. ANSI Z87.1 gives general descrip\u00adti\u00adons and requi\u00adre\u00adments to the eyewear and pro\u00advi\u00addes the test methods.<br>\nThe general requi\u00adre\u00adments to the eyewear include the optical quality, lumi\u00adnous trans\u00admit\u00adtance, refrac\u00adti\u00adve powers and haze for clear lenses. The general phy\u00adsi\u00adcal requi\u00adre\u00adments are no sharp edges and no other defects that may cause dis\u00adcom\u00adfort or injury. The minimum covera\u00adge area is also checked to make sure that eyewear doesn\u2019t rest\u00adrict the view field of the user. The \u201ddrop ball test\u201d is appli\u00adca\u00adble only in case of no high mass impact and velo\u00adci\u00adty tests are done. The eyewear has to endure also the igni\u00adti\u00adon and cor\u00adro\u00adsi\u00adon (if there are any metal parts) tests. Eyewear shall provide a good and tight lateral covera\u00adge of the eye. The high mass and high velo\u00adci\u00adty tests are passed if no part of the eyewear becomes detached from the inner surface, if there is no frac\u00adtu\u00adre, no com\u00adple\u00adte pene\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon of the pro\u00adjec\u00adti\u00adle through lens or frame, no rupture of the lens.<br>\nANSI Z87.1 lays down also the requi\u00adre\u00adments to the optical radia\u00adti\u00adon pro\u00adtec\u00adtion. Among the common indus\u00adtri\u00adal filters like infrared and visible light pro\u00adtec\u00adtion (for welding), the stan\u00addard lays down the cri\u00adte\u00adria for pro\u00adtec\u00adtion against ultra\u00advio\u00adlet radia\u00adti\u00adon. While the first two are not needed in the bal\u00adli\u00adstic glasses, the latter is very important. The results of the test of the above men\u00adtio\u00adned refrac\u00adti\u00adve powers are clas\u00adsi\u00adfied into three cate\u00adgo\u00adries. The optical class 1 is the highest one and allows eyewear to be used per\u00adma\u00adnent\u00adly. All Swis\u00adseye lenses fulfill the requi\u00adre\u00adment of the optical class 1.This test method also checks the light trans\u00admis\u00adsi\u00adon (light fil\u00adte\u00adring) as well as light dif\u00adfu\u00adsi\u00adon and quality of mate\u00adri\u00adal and surface.<br>\n<strong>EN 168<\/strong> deter\u00admi\u00adnes non-optic tests like the test on increased robust\u00adness, sta\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty at ele\u00adva\u00adted tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtures, UV resis\u00adtance and resis\u00adtance to igni\u00adti\u00adon, high speed impact, resis\u00adtance to fogging and pro\u00adtec\u00adtion against gases, dust, and smoke. Accor\u00adding to EN 166, glasses may be tested with high speed par\u00adtic\u00adles with low energy impact only (marked as F, energy of about 0,87 J) while goggles may have the medium energy impact (B, ca. 6,19 J) and full-face shields are the only ones allowed the test with high energy impact (A, ca. 15,52 J).<br>\nF stays for the safety against high speed par\u00adtic\u00adles with low impact energy and T is for pro\u00adtec\u00adtion against the high speed par\u00adtic\u00adles at high tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtu\u00adre con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons.<br>\n<strong>EN 170<\/strong> tests the pro\u00adtec\u00adtion of the object against ultra\u00advio\u00adlet radia\u00adti\u00adon. It uses a 0.15 caliber, 5,8 grain to gain the V0 or V50. V50 is the velo\u00adci\u00adty at which com\u00adple\u00adte and incom\u00adple\u00adte pene\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon are equally likely to occur. V0 point is the maximum velo\u00adci\u00adty at which no com\u00adple\u00adte pene\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon will occur. Our model <a href=\"https:\/\/swisseye-tactical.com\/en\/products\/all-products\/tactical-glasses\/raptor\/\">Raptor<\/a> showed e.g. no pene\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon at 660 fps in the test report of this norm. The tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtu\u00adre tests are done at the pro\u00adlon\u00adged con\u00addi\u00adtio\u00adning with \u201150 and +70\u00b0C where object shall show no dis\u00adtor\u00adti\u00adon or dis\u00adco\u00adlo\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon. Solar radia\u00adti\u00adon and humi\u00addi\u00adty shall not affect the glasses. Goggles must also have a pro\u00adtec\u00adti\u00adve sleeve. Spec\u00adta\u00adcles and goggles have to be com\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adble with the pre\u00adscrip\u00adti\u00adon holder, which Swis\u00adseye calls <a href=\"https:\/\/swisseye-tactical.com\/en\/products\/?filter_features=rx-clips\">RX clip adapter<\/a>.<br>\nLenses have to be easily detached without using any tools. The eyewear has to be light\u00adweight, durable and com\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adble with other mili\u00adta\u00adry equip\u00adment like weapons, clot\u00adhing, helmets etc. The textile has to be resistant to mildew. The eyewear shall show no degra\u00adda\u00adti\u00adon under the expo\u00adsure of extreme tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtu\u00adre (from \u201150 to +70\u00b0C), solar radia\u00adti\u00adon, humi\u00addi\u00adty, adhe\u00adsi\u00adon, wind and dust. The optical requi\u00adre\u00adments include lumi\u00adnous trans\u00admit\u00adtance of the light and the allowed spec\u00adtral trans\u00admit\u00adtance, chro\u00adma\u00adti\u00adci\u00adty, a wide field of view and the resis\u00adtance to optical degra\u00adda\u00adti\u00adon because of fogging and scrat\u00adching. The lenses shall absorb the UV radia\u00adti\u00adon from 290 to 380 nm. This norm uses the test methods of <strong>ANSI Z87.1<\/strong> for the fol\u00adlo\u00adwing issues: requi\u00adre\u00adments for the pris\u00adma\u00adtic power, high impact pro\u00adtec\u00adtion, flamma\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty and cor\u00adro\u00adsi\u00adon resis\u00adtance to salt water as well as tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtu\u00adre and humi\u00addi\u00adty requi\u00adre\u00adments. Bal\u00adli\u00adstic frag\u00admen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon pro\u00adtec\u00adtion after MIL-PRF-32432 is done with a pro\u00adjec\u00adti\u00adle of 0.15 caliber and 5.85 grain for spec\u00adta\u00adcles at the velo\u00adci\u00adty of 640\u2013660 fps (195\u2013201 ms). For goggles the hit must be done with a 0.22 caliber, 17 grain at 550\u2013560 fps (167\u2013170 ms). The lens shall not be com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly per\u00adfo\u00adra\u00adted, shat\u00adte\u00adred, cracked or frac\u00adtu\u00adred. The velo\u00adci\u00adty of the pro\u00adjec\u00adti\u00adle is detec\u00adted by a light beam 34,29 cm (13,5 inches) in front of the test sample. Pene\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adons are deter\u00admi\u00adned by exami\u00adning of an alu\u00admi\u00adnum foil mounted behind the visor. Sample gets shot on the right and left side.<br>\nThe test sample is requi\u00adred to with\u00adstand 167,6\u2013170,7 m\/s (550\u2013560 fps) velo\u00adci\u00adty. Our model <a href=\"https:\/\/swisseye-tactical.com\/en\/products\/all-products\/tactical-glasses\/raptor\/\">Raptor<\/a> has suc\u00adcessful\u00adly com\u00adple\u00adted the test with\u00adstan\u00adding 170,9 m\/s (560,6 fps) without any pene\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon.
